SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION 

The Dakota Karper Youth Music Scholarship program is made possible through support from Cacapon Music and Dance Foundation. This program is run at The Cat and The Fiddle folk music school to enrich the lives of children and youth in Hampshire County and surrounding areas. Students entering the Dakota Karper Youth Music Program for the first time must be in grades 3rd-1oth and are eligible to reapply and remain in the program until they are 18 years old. 

A scholarship winner for this program would receive: 

• 30 weeks of private 1-on-1 classes with a professional music instructor on the instrument of their choosing

• 5-10 weeks of group band classes

• If they do not already have an instrument of their own, they would receive an instrument for their own use that they would be awarded to keep at the end of a successful completion of the program

• Performance opportunities in up to 2 student recitals per year

• The support of a musical community 

• Group workshops and  field trips

Winners of a Dakota Karper Youth Music Scholarship are expected to: 

• Attend private music classes once a week held at The Cat and The Fiddle (CAPON BRIDGE, WV), field trips, workshops and group band. 

• Attend/participate in 3 music related community events per semester (Music related events include: jams, concerts, and open mics)

• Practice a minimum of 1 hr 40 mins each week (20 min daily) in order to master the material covered in classes

Applications for this scholarship are accepted year round. New applicants can begin classes at the start of a new quarter.
